UKTC NI squad members Marc Kennan and Stephen Fitzsimmons recently attended strength and conditioning training course at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown.

The course was organised by TANI and funded by Sport NI. The sessions were a first for Northern Ireland as they were a joint programme attended by both ITF and WTF fighters.
Strength and conditioning training is a must for all adult competitors who are serious about taking part in competition. Strength and conditioning training will also improve the performance of any martial artist who wishes to further develop their skills and progress in the arts without suffering serious injury.
Please note that before undertaking any sort of weights programme please consult your doctor.

For more information on the programmes and how to perform individual exercises please speak to Marc, Stephen, or Leo.

Before each training session ensure that you warm up thoroughly. The following is the warm up routine suggested by Mr William Moore of Jordanstown University physical education department.

5 min cardio: treadmill, skipping, shadow boxing etc.
3 sets of lunges: forward, side and 45 degree.
Body weight sumo squats.
Caterpillar walks.
5 pullover stretches.
Exercise specific stretches.
